Welcome to Reception!

The children in Reception enjoy their learning and have the opportunity to access a range of experiences each day.

We follow the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and there are, like in Nursery, 7 areas of learning.

Prime areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Specific areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The children have a packed timetable!  Each day begins with an early task to get them nice and ready for learning.  Maths is next, with follow up activities which focus on each child's next steps.  Throughout the morning children have access to adult led and child initiated activities indoors and out.  Guided Reading and the daily Phonics lesson are before lunch each day.  After lunch we are straight into Literacy where we share a book of the week and use this to gain key skills in reading and writing.  PE, RE and handwriting form part of our week too.

Children love to collect rewards for completing the Rainbow Challenge each week.  A task is set for them to complete in Maths, Reading, Writing, Phonics, Art and Design and Physical development.  Ask your child how many colours they have collected!

Please use the curriculum newsletters to keep informed about key learning but also ask your child what they have been learning too.
