‘They will soar on wings like eagles,’ Isaiah 40:31
Our Vision Statement
Our community is one where all are welcomed and valued; where dedicated staff ensure children learn in a safe, nurturing and happy environment, which enhances excellence and enables children to flourish.
We hope that pupils will develop the confidence to play a positive part in society, to accept its rules and try to help some of its problems.
We aim to develop a shared approach to our mission and values through work with the children of St John's Primary School during each academic year.
St John's CofE Primary School is a positive, caring school where everybody is valued and every child is encouraged to achieve their best.
We are a Church of England school within the Manchester Diocese. Our Christian foundation shapes policy and practice, and we work in partnership with diocesan advisers to develop collective worship and RE. We also work with the Shades Project a faith-based racial justice programme run by the Manchester Diocese to support our young people to speak out and support one another.
Collective Worship: Daily worship is invitational, inclusive and inspiring, rooted in our Christian vision (“They will soar on wings like eagles” – Isaiah 40:31). Worship is led by staff and clergy from our parish church, includes music, prayer and reflection, and follows the Christian calendar. Pupils increasingly plan and lead elements of worship. You can find out more in our collective worship policy which is on our policies page.
Religious Education: Our RE curriculum (RE Today scheme of work which incorporates Diocesan Syllabus) develops religious literacy through study of Christianity and world faiths, encouraging respectful dialogue and deep thinking about life’s big questions. See the RE page for long‑term plans and progression.
In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ‘create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British Values of Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty and Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.’ These British Values are taught to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.
At St John’s Church of England Primary School these values are reinforced in the following ways:
